The aim of the course is to provide students with a detailed knowledge of the operating principles and system lay-out of power plants for energy conversion, such as gas turbine systems, steam power plant and combined cycles. Moreover, the course will give the basis for the plant performances calculation, system behaviour understanding and plant management knowledge, with particular regard to the current national and international energy scenario.
Knowledge of the behavior of innovative plants and the effect on the performance of real operating conditions.
Ability to understand the operating principals of innovative plants and systems such as: Integrated gasifier combined cycles, supercritical CO2 power plants, Carbone Capture and Storage technologies, hydrogen and supply chain and e-fuel production.
Ability to analyze the advantages and criticalities of systems with a reduced environmental footprint.
Ability to analyze and calculate the techno-economic performance of the energy systems defining the influence parameters.
Frontal lectures with practice exercises.
- Energy sources and consumption at national and worldwide level. - Gas turbine power plants: Ideal and real behaviour and performances, operating parameters, plant management and control, off-design and transient operating conditions, solutions for plant efficiency enhancing. - Combined Cycles: System description and motivations, performances, management and flexibility. -Innovative solutions for efficient and environmental-friendly energy conversions: IGCC, ORC, SCO2

Verbal test.
Students with SLD, disability or other regularly certified special educational needs are advised to contact the instructor at the beginning of the course to agree on teaching and examination methods that, in compliance with the course objectives, take into account the individual learning requirements.
The students will take a verbal test consisting of two or more questions, related to the topics covered in class, to monitor their level of comprehension and knowledge, and to ascertain their critical thinking and capacity of synthesis.
