OVERVIEW

The module is taught on an annual basis It lasts one year and is divided into 48 hours (8 credits for SID) and 54 hours (9 credits for SAP) in which the study of English (language of politics and diplomacy) will be addressed both at a theoretical and applicative level (analysis of texts).and will be supported by "lettorato" to help students revise grammar and the basic structures of the English language

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The aim of the module is to introduce students to the study of the English language (phonology, morphology, syntax, vocabulary, semantics) as the expression of both a homogeneous culture and a lingua franca of international communication. At the end of the course students will be able to critically read and analyze texts, especially in the sphere of current affairs in order to discuss them with their peers

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course aims at achieving not only a linguistic but also a cultural understanding of the proposed contents that will allow their use in relation to the chosen course of study to which they are linked thanks to the contextualisation of linguistic phenomena in the contemporary world, with particular attention to political and diplomatic language. Through language, reflection on the social and political realities of the various areas of study will be stimulated in order to provide the tools for reading the international context to which they refer in a continuous comparison with the Italian, European and non-European reality.  The level of competence attained in the three-year degree will allow, at the end of the module and after passing the exam, to know the main features of political and diplomatic discourse in stylistic, rhetorical and lexical terms and to be able to engage in discussions and debates in English on topics that imply knowledge of a vocabulary of the field

Expected level of output equivalent to at least B2 of the CEFR
