OVERVIEW

The Human Geography course aims to provide the elements of knowledge and interpretation from a geographical point of view of the ways in which populations and societies in their material manifestations (economic activities, infrastructures, etc.) are distributed over the territory and interact with it .

AIMS AND CONTENT

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of the teaching the students will be able to (9 Credits)

- Understand and summarize the main concepts and themes underlying Human Geography

- Know the main geographical survey methods and the tools used by geographers

- To interpret the socio-territorial dynamics that characterize different geographical regions;

- Understand the reasons that lead to a new distribution of the world's population, religions and languages

- Understand and analyze the landscape in urban and rural areas

- Know the main approaches to the study of the region as an object of geographical analysis

- Understand the dynamics related to the geography of globalization, development and underdevelopment

- to identify the factors that cause the impact of human activities on the environment and landscape.

 

At the end of the course the students will be able to (6 Credits)

PREREQUISITES

None.

TEACHING METHODS

The course consists of lectures, aimed at presenting and studying the main notions of human geography through the use of practical examples.

The materials used during the lessons will be uploaded to AulaWeb together with other materials (reports, links to databases, etc.) aimed at defining the quantitative aspects of the phenomena studied.

Occasionally, researchers or experts in the discipline (Italian and foreign) may also be invited to hold seminars to study specific aspects of the problems dealt with.

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The exam is written and oral.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The test:
- will assess the knowledge of the topics covered in class and contained in the study texts;
- will test the ability to think critically about spatial, landscape and environmental processes.
The evaluation will take into account:
- appropriate knowledge of disciplinary vocabulary;
- ability to reason critically;
- ability to make connections between the different topics covered.
