SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Von der Gastarbeiterliteratur zur transulturellen deutschsprachigen Literatur

(From the "Guestworker's"Literature to the transcultural German literature)

Content:

The course will first focus on the literary phenomena such as "Gastarbeiterliteratur" (literature produced by some foreign workers from Southeast Europe who came to Germany during the Ecconomic Wonder of the 1960s and 1970s), literature of migrants and migration literature of the 1980s and 1990s and todays inter-, multi- and transcultural (also transnational) literature in German language, presenting them from a historical and sociological perspective and considerating the significance of these authors' bi- and plurilingism as an impact on their writing creativity. The various literary awards in Austria, Germany and Switzerland for writers who experienced a change in language and culture round up the panorama of this literary phenomenon.

The second part of the course will focus on reading, analysing and interpreting the following texts:

Emine Sevgi Özdamar: Mutterzunge

Julya Rabinowich: Spaltkopf

Vladimir Verlib: Zwischenstationen
