SYLLABUS/CONTENT

English Language I (LM) is divided into two parts, a one-semester linguistics module ("modulo teorico") and a two-semester practical module ("modulo pratico" or "esercitazioni" o "lettorato").

The linguistics module ("modulo teorico") is an introduction to the History of English, based on the following topics:

- English in the world today,

- English as a national language,

- English as a colonial language,

- English as a global language,

- English and Englishes,

- English and other languages,

- variation and change in English.

The practical language module aims to bring students to the C1.2 (upper end of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages C1 level) through reading, writing and speaking activities as well as vocabulary and grammar exercises. In particular, writing skills will be developed though the discussion of topics related to ‘British civilisation’.

The syllabus for attenders and non-attenders is the same.
