OVERVIEW

The course provides practical skills in the Portuguese language equal to level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The Theoretical Module prepares and leads to the translation of Navalha na Carne, a play by the Brazilian Plínio Marcos (1935-1999).

AIMS AND CONTENT

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

During the theoretical module we will proceed with the linguistic-translation analysis of the play Navalha na carne by the Brazilian Plínio Marcos.

The lessons, mainly of a laboratory nature, aim to strengthen the students' knowledge of the Brazilian variant of Portuguese (PB), providing elements of the linguistic history of Brazil and defining the main lexical and morphosyntactic changes with respect to the European variant of Portuguese ( PE);
introduce and historicize the concepts of norma padrão, norma culta and norma popular within the PB;
identify the strategies required for the translation of a theatrical text: involvement of the body, work on the voice, preparation for staging.
The practical module aims at consolidating the C1 levels of the CEFR. The grammatical and lexical structures of the Portuguese language will be studied in depth through readings, conversations, written papers, oral presentations and various types of exercises.
