Fiction and poetry from Cape Verde and the Azores AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The course aims at a cultural-historical incursion into the universe of urban discomfort, the margin and the hegemony-subalternity relationship starting from the favela/communidade place in Brazil and develops through three discourses: the first, sociological in character; the second literary (with a history of the so-called 'literatura marginal'); the third textual (with an analysis of language and forms in some novels, poems, graphic novels and audiovisuals). AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES The course aims at a cultural-historical incursion into the universe of island literatures, with special reference to the archipelagos of Cape Verde and the Azores, starting from the perspective of geographical place (isolation) and developing through themes such as nostalgia, the journey, the return. TEACHING METHODS Lectures and seminars in italian and portuguese. Attendance is heartily recommended. Students who are unable to attend will have to study some supplementary material Students with a certified DSA, disability or other special educational needs to contact the lecturer at the beginning of the course to agree on teaching and examination methods that while respecting the teaching objectives, take into account individual individual learning methods and provide suitable compensatory tools SYLLABUS/CONTENT In addition to the objective of perfecting cultural skills in Lusophone literature, the course aims to develop a comparative approach to the themes of travel and geographical isolation in island writers with, specifically, an analysis of the language and forms in certain novels, poems, and audiovisuals. A substantial part of the course will be in the form of a literary translation workshop starting with a short contemporary Cape Verdean novel or short story that will be chosen in class after a formal and content analysis.
