OVERVIEW

This 12-credit course consists of two modules (6 credits each): one is taught in the first year of LM 37-38 (for all first year students), and the other in the second year (just for the Modern literatures curriculum). For 2022-2023 syllabuses see 65278 Letteratura e cultura inglese Mod. 1 (Prof. Colombino) and 65279 Letteratura e cultura inglese Mod. 2 (Prof. Michelucci).

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

MA literary courses involve lectures and workshops; they aim to provide students with an in-depth knowledge of aspects/moments in the history of British literature and culture from the Renaissance to the present age. Students will also learn and discuss all the critical and theoretical issues involved in the establishment of the literary canon and in its recent revisions.

PREREQUISITES

  • a general knowledge of British literary history, its periodization and main lines of development;
  • an advanced knowledge of the English language (C1).

ASSESSMENT METHODS

Students will be asked to demonstrate their knowledge of primary texts and critical bibliography, their understanding of cultural and theoretical issues and their ability to analyse and contextualise extracts from literary texts. Their ability to use English effectively will also be taken into account.
