The course is in line with the learning outcomes of the LM37/38, in particular with regard to the acquisition of textual analysis skills applied to media communication in French.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of the course, students will be able to:

- Identify media language devices, with particular reference to journalistic language
- Analyse the linguistic dynamics of journalistic texts through the French discourse analysis (AD) tools.

At the end of the course, students will be able to:
- know and remember the main notions concerning French discourse analysis;

- know and remember the main notion concerning metaphor theories (most notably concetual metaphor theory and recent developments);

- identify media discourse textual trends, most notably as far as journalistic discourse is concerned;

- analyse textual patterns in journalistic discourses using the theoretical framework of French "analyse du discours";

- identify rethorical and argumentative strategies in texts, most notably as far as the persuasive functions of metaphorical concepts are concerned.

Students will also have acquired basic skills in corpus analysis.

Practical exercises: at the end of the courses, students will be able to understand and analyse media texts and discourses in French (C1 level of the Common Framework) , most notably as far as linguistic carachteristics of journalistic and audiovisual discourses are concerned.

- identify the mechanisms specific to media language, with particular reference to the language of the press;

- analyse the dynamics of journalistic texts through the tools of French-style discourse analysis (AD).

Après avoir terminé le cours, l'étudiant sera en mesure :

- d'identifier les différents types et fonctions des métaphores dans les discours institutionnel et médiatique ;

- d'identifier les mécanismes propres au langage médiatique, en particulier au langage de la presse ;

- d'analyser la dynamique des textes journalistiques à l'aide des outils de l'analyse du discours (AD) française.

TEACHING METHODS

Plenary lessons and and consolidation activities by Aulaweb. Students with a certified DSA, disability or other special educational needs are advised to contact the lecturer at the beginning of the course in order to agree on teaching and examination methods that, while respecting the teaching objectives, take into account individual learning methods and provide suitable compensatory tools.

Cours en présentiel en plenière et travaux dirigés à distance via Aulaweb. SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Le cours présente un aperçu des outils d'analyse du discours dans le domaine de la communication médiatique, avec une attention particulière pour la figure métaphorique en tant qu'outil de cadrage (framing). L'identification et l'analyse des métaphores dans la communication institutionnelle et dans sa médiatisation à travers le discours journalistique seront abordées, exploitant également les outils de la linguistique de corpus.

Thèmes principaux :

- théories de la métaphore et théorie conceptuelle de la métaphore (CMT) ;

- outils d'analyse du discours politique en langue française ;

- stratégies de médiatisation du discours institutionnel dans la presse francophone ;

- outils d'analyse de corpus.

The course presents an overview of the tools of discourse analysis in the field of media communication, with particular reference to the metaphorical figure as a framing tool. In particular, the identification and analysis of metaphors in institutional communication and its mediatisation through journalistic discourse will be addressed, also through the tools of corpus linguistics.

Main topics:

- theories of metaphor and conceptual metaphor theory (CMT);

- tools for analysing political discourse in the French language;

- mediatisation strategies of institutional discourse in the French-language press;

- corpus analysis tools.

For the theory module, the examination will consist of an oral interview following the preparation of a text analysis dossier. The skills acquired in the field of media discourse analysis through the analysis of authentic texts and oral expression skills in French will then be taken into account. Evaluation out of thirty.

Pour le module théorique, l'examen consistera en un entretien oral après la préparation d'un dossier d'analyse de textes. Les compétences acquises dans le domaine de l'analyse du discours médiatique à travers l'analyse de textes authentiques et les compétences d'expression orale en français seront prises en compte. Evaluation sur 30.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The theoretical module exam aims to verify the acquisition of theoretical knowledge concerning French speech analysis and the ability to apply this knowledge by the concrete analysis of a corpus.

The lettorato exams are designed to test the acquisition of complex texts comprehension and production skills in French at C1-C2 level.

L'examen du module théorique vise à vérifier l'acquisition des connaissances théoriques concernant dans l'analyse du discours d'empreinte française et la capacité d'appliquer ces connaissances à l'analyse concrète d'un corpus textuel.

Les examens relatifs au lettorato sont conçus pour vérifier l'acquisition de compétences en matière de compréhension et de production de textes complexes en français au niveau C1-C2.
