AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The course is targeted to the acquisition by the students of the basic principles and the basis for resistance to the motion and to power the hulls . AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES This course is aimed at illustrating the fundamental and basic principles concerning hull resistance and propulsion. TEACHING METHODS Classroom lectures and exercises SYLLABUS/CONTENT Ship resistance components. Resistance prediction from model testing and standard series. Two-dimensional and three-dimensional airfoil theory. Propeller geometry, design and matching. Theory of propeller action: momentum theory, blade element theory. Cavitation Hull-propeller interaction. Propeller choice: propeller charts, powering prediction.
