LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course aims to give to the student knowledge and skills related to electronic devices and microelectronics.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course aims to give to the student knowledge and skills related to electronic devices and microelectronics.

Attendance and active participation in the proposed educational activities (lectures) and individual study will allow the student to:

• be able to analyze the electrical scheme of a signal conditioning CMOS circuit and understand the functionality of each transistor in the circuit

• analyze by means of a circuit simulation the operation of a signal conditioning CMOS circuit according to the usual operating modes i.e. in direct current (working point), over time, in the frequency domain

• evaluate the performance of a transconductance amplifier using the most used evaluation metrics e.g. time and frequency response, power consumption, response to differential mode and common mode inputs, slew rate

• analyze and develop signal conditioning circuits

• analyze and develop sensor signal acquisition circuits

• understand the design flow of a transconductance operational amplifier circuit

• understand the main analysis metrics of Analog-Digital and Digital-Analog conversion systems

• understand the main circuit architectures of Analog-Digital and Digital-Analog conversion systems

• analyze the effects of the dispersion of technological parameters on the performance of a circuit in CMOS technology

TEACHING METHODS

The course consists of lectures for a total of about 50 hours. Attendance to lectures is compulsory, as per the didactic regulations.

This course, dealing with topics of scientific-technological interest such as analog integrated electronic systems, contributes to the achievement of the following Sustainable Development Goals of the UN 2030 Agenda:

8.2 (Achieving higher standards of economic productivity through diversification, technological progress and innovation, also with particular attention to high added value and work intensive sectors)

9.5 (Increase scientific research, improve the technological capabilities of the industrial sector in all states - especially in developing countries - as well as encourage innovations and substantially increase, by 2030, the number of employees for every million people, in the research and development sector and expenditure on research – both public and private – and on development)

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The exam consists of an oral exam. The oral exam focuses on the theoretical / practical topics taught during the course. Three sessions will be available in the summer session and three sessions in the winter session.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

Details on how to prepare for the exam and the degree of depth of each topic will be given during the lectures. The oral exam mainly focusses on the topics covered during the lectures and will have the purpose of evaluating not only if the student has reached an adequate level of knowledge, but if she/he has acquired the ability to critically analyze the different circuit topologies of transconductance amplifiers and of Analog-to-Digital and Digital-to-Analog conversion systems.
