OVERVIEW

The course aims to allow a reflection on transversal, cognitive and social skills, complementary to the technical-disciplinary skills of the engineering professions. Students will have the opportunity to analyze their own relational and communication styles and develop greater competence in leadership and teamwork.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The aim of the course is to develop in students the basic skills related to interpersonal communication at work, teamwork and leading small groups.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of the course the student will know:

  • describe the most demanded non-technical skills on the labor market;
  • describe the main facilitation techniques of a team;
  • use strategy to promote open communication in a professional context:
    • use open-ended questions to stimulate the discussion in a professional relationship;
    • use reformulations and repetitions as an active listening technique in a professional relationship;
    • reduce emotional resistances through empathic techniques in a professional discussion;
    • speak in first person to facilitate the understanding of one's point of view by an interlocutor;
    • give specific and non-judgmental feedback to a colleague;

TEACHING METHODS

The course will have a laboratory and practical character, being set in an experiential way to allow the  experimentation of the communication techniques and strategies.

The teaching methodologies include, in addition to lectures, the use of problem based learning, relational simulation, discussion in small groups and the use of videos.

Active participation in educational activities is an essential condition for passing the exam. Attendance in presence is required (if possible).

Materials and videos will be made available to non-attending students.

Students with DSA certification must contact the teacher at the beginning of the course to agree on any changes to the examination and / or lessons.
