CODE 73156 ACADEMIC YEAR 2023/2024 CREDITS 5 cfu anno 2 INGEGNERIA CIVILE 10799 (LM-23) - GENOVA SCIENTIFIC DISCIPLINARY SECTOR ICAR/09 LANGUAGE Italian TEACHING LOCATION GENOVA SEMESTER 2° Semester MODULES Questo insegnamento è un modulo di: REHABILITATION, IDENTIFICATION AND CONTROL OF STRUCTURES TEACHING MATERIALS AULAWEB OVERVIEW Starting from the definition of “bridge” and “viaduct”, the course illustrates the various structural typologies and their application, depending on the span length, the type of traffic (roads or railways) and the construction method, concrete, steel-concrete, orthotropic steel deck. The design of girder bridges, the most common structural typology, and in particular the steel-concrete cross-sectional construction system, is analysed in detail. AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The course introduces the basic concepts of bridge design: the different typologies are described (with particular attention to long span bridges) and the structural elements characterizing the bridge (illustrating typologies, construction and erection techniques and calculation) are analysed in detail. TEACHING METHODS The methodology used can be defined as frontal lesson. During the course, there is also a practice part during which there is a greater interaction with the students. SYLLABUS/CONTENT Starting from the description of the most common types of Bridges and Viaducts and their erection methods, the following topics are discussed in the course, with particular attention to the steel-concrete composite sections. - Transversal loads distribution, Bredt & Courbon - Structural analysis with the use of surfaces and lines of influence - Definition of structural sections with detailed analysis of design, construction or erection data - Choice of connection type, welding and bolting systems - Definition of executive and design details for concrete slab and orthotropic steel deck Design and construction method for concrete and arch bridges are also analysed. Subsequently some design regarding Cable Stayed and Arch Bridges or erection method by launching are shown. The final part is concerning piles, abutment and foundation, shallow or deep, where needed. RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY The course does not have a specific textbook, but is based on "Power Point Presentation" files that are delivered to the students. To be admitted to the test you need to deliver a project report that is evaluated and discussed during the examination itself. ASSESSMENT METHODS The exam test consists of assigning a road section and a span to overcome, with reporting of any particular boundary conditions, and the candidate must identify the bridge typology best suited to them by defining the resistant section in the essential aspects. According to the structural typology identified, theoretical questions are made on how to deal with the various design problems. Generally, some questions about the erection method, the supporting structures (abutments and piers) and the concrete slab deck are made. The purpose of the test is to evaluate the theoretical knowledge of the candidate and his applicative ability in solving a design problem. FURTHER INFORMATION https://unige.it/off.f/2015/cds/8725.html
