CODE 104384 ACADEMIC YEAR 2023/2024 CREDITS 5 cfu anno 2 INGEGNERIA CIVILE 10799 (LM-23) - GENOVA SCIENTIFIC DISCIPLINARY SECTOR ICAR/08 LANGUAGE Italian TEACHING LOCATION GENOVA SEMESTER 1° Semester MODULES Questo insegnamento è un modulo di: REHABILITATION, IDENTIFICATION AND CONTROL OF STRUCTURES TEACHING MATERIALS AULAWEB AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The aim of the course is to provide the students with the tools for the dynamic identification and the vibration control of civil structures. After introducing the basics of linear random dynamics, Experimental Modal Analysis (EMA) and Operational Modal Analysis (OMA) are discussed introducing the main frequency- and time-domain identification methods. Basic knowledge on the techniques for passive vibration control and the seismic isolation of structures is provided. Numerical and experimental laboratories for the application of the methods introduced in the course are also developed. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES The course provides the students with the theoretical foundation and operational tools for the dynamic identification of structures, by means of time- and frequency-domain methods, the bases of passive control techniques and seismic isolation. The main learning outcomes of the Couse are: Acquisition of the bases for the characterization of the dynamic response of structures to a random excitation Ability to analyse and manipulate random quantities Acquisition of the theoretical bases of dynamic identification of civil engineering structures Ability to apply methods for the dynamic identification of civil engineering structures Knowledge of the main methods for vibration control of structures Knowledge of the bases of seismic isolation TEACHING METHODS The course is organized in class teaching (approximately 35 hours), computer lab (approximately 15 hours) and experimental laboratory (approximately 4 hours). SYLLABUS/CONTENT Dynamic Identification: Experimental Modal Analysis (EMA) e Operational Modal Analysis (OMA). EMA: transducers, excitation mechanisms, identification methods, signal processing. Probability theory and statistics: random variables, random vectors and probabilistic models. Random processes and stationarity. Stationary random dynamic response of linear elastic structures. OMA: frequency and time domain identification techniques. Passive vibration control and seismic isolation. RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY Brincker R. Ventura C. In addition to the exam dates that are included in the official exam calendar, it is possible to request additional exam dates. ASSESSMENT METHODS The oral exam is aimed at ascertaining the understanding of the theoretical and applicative contents of the Couse. The student must demonstrate that he has assimilated the basic concepts of dynamic identification, random processes, random structural dynamics and vibration control. Furthermore, although a numerical exercise is not foreseen, the student will have to demonstrate that he has learned the essential elements for the analysis and manipulation of random quantities and the application of methods for the dynamic identification of structures. The assessment will take into account the level of knowledge achieved, the degree of preparation, the ability of critical analysis and the acquisition of a correct terminology.
