OVERVIEW

Hygiene protects and promote health by removing disease causes and risk factors and strengthening protective factors in individuals, populations and environment.

Prospects and problems raised by the continuous development of biomedical sciences require a careful reflection of the ethical aspects involved. The course provides the skills needed to carry out adequate critical evaluation on the values and ethical principles involved in interventions on bios available by the “era of the technique".

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Module “Environmental Hygiene, Health Protection

To provide the essential knowledge about:

- health concept, health protection and promotion, health education;

- identification and control of the main causes of disease and environmental risk factors;

- epidemiology and prevention of the main infectious and chronic-degenerative diseases.

 

Module “Bioethics”

The course intends to provide a general insight into bioethics issues that researchers and healthcare professionals face daily. The researcher, together with the whole community, is involved in taking responsibility for the activity being carried out.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

Module “Environmental Hygiene, Health Protection

To provide the essential knowledge about:

- health concept and its evolution;

- health protection and promotion through different prevention and education strategies;

- identification, control and removal of the main causes of disease and risk factors in the environment and workplaces;

- epidemiology and prevention of the main infectious and transmissible diseases;

- epidemiology and prevention of the main chronic-degenerative diseases (cardiovascular diseases, neoplastic diseases, diabetes, neurodegenerative diseases).

 

Module "Bioethics"

Provide cognitive, methodological and behavioral tools to critically address the ethical issues raised by advancing scientific and technological research.

Module “Environmental Hygiene, Health Protection

  1. Introduction and organization of disciplin. General epidemiology and prevention.
  2. Air pollution. Health risks, related diseases and prevention.
  3. Indoor pollution. Health risks, related diseases and prevention.
  4. Sunlight and artificial light. Lightning of workplaces. Health risks, related diseases and prevention.
  5. Noise. Health risks, related diseases and prevention.
  6. Water (pollution and health risks; potabilization).
  7. Solid and liquid wastes. Management and health risks.
  8. Epidemiology and prevention of transmissible disease.
  9. Epidemiology and prevention of cardiovascular diseases.
  10. Epidemiology and prevention of neoplastic diseases
  11. Diet and health risks.
  12. Health risks in workplace environments.

Module Bioethics

Bioethics: general principles. Definition and content of bioethics. Historical aspects: the rise of bioethics. Bioethics: from modern ethics to bioethics. The principles of benefit, autonomy and justice.

Ethics in biomedical research, clinical ethics, environmental ethics, animal ethics.

The responsible consensus.

The status of the embryo
