OVERVIEW

The course aims to provide specific knowledge on the physiological mechanisms that are the basis of the changes affecting the elderly.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

To deepen the knowledge of the physiological processes of aging, propedeutic moment to the analysis of problems related to senescence, in particular the knowledge about muscle, endocrine, and homeostasis metabolism, with particular reference to adaptive aspects in different physiological conditions.

Provide students the opportunity to develop knowledge of physiological causes and mechanisms that are the basis of senescence in the healthy individual.

TEACHING METHODS

Frontal lectures with power point presentations

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Functional modifications in musculoskeletal, respiratory, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, endocrine and nervous systems. In particular, regarding the nervous system: neuronal alterations, neurotransmitters, plasticity, memory, sleep, somatic sensitivity, cognitive function, somatic motor functions and vegetative, specific sense organs.
