E ADATTATA 8747 (LM-67) - GENOVA SCIENTIFIC DISCIPLINARY SECTOR M-EDF/01 LANGUAGE Italian TEACHING LOCATION GENOVA SEMESTER 1° Semester MODULES Questo insegnamento è un modulo di: PHYSICAL ACTIVITY IN THE ELDERLY TEACHING MATERIALS AULAWEB OVERVIEW The Course provides information on the prevention and promotion of health, indications and contraindications to physical activity, deepen social and psychological aspects and those affecting the quality of life. The practical part of the course provides the specific information needed to be able to deal with the planning and development of motor sport sessions with competence. AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The aim of the course is to study the methodological path of motor activities with its peculiarities during senescence, and correlate it to: - the paraphysiological state of fragility of elderly people, - post-pneumatic functional residues, Motor skills residual post-disease (neurological, motor, dismetabolic), cognitive and learning skills of the subject, - design the possible motor path for each disability category of the elderly. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES The aim of the course will be to provide the student with the theoretical and technical-operational knowledge of basic motor activity for maintaining the autonomy of the elderly person, also through sports. The latter is understood as any physical activity that has as objective the improvement of the physical and mental condition, the development of social relationships and the improvement of the quality of life. The teaching will have to make students acquire the ability to program an individual and group protocol, both in the gym and in the natural environment, taking into account the psychomotor, social, environmental and relational aspects of the age itself and to promote the activity movement as a primary element in the prevention and conservation of health and autonomy. At the end of the course, the student will: - know the theories of aging, the social aspects related to the practice of physical activity in elderly, the national and international directives on the application of programs of physical activity adapted to the elderly; - be able to evaluate and describe the motor condition of the elderly in order to propose interventions aimed at participating in adapted physical activity programs; - be able to design sustainable training periods. TEACHING METHODS Theoretical lessons (10 hours, first semester) and practical lessons (40 hours, second semester). During the lessons, in addition to conventional teaching methodologies, innovative teaching techniques will be used. SYLLABUS/CONTENT Successful aging: theories of aging and physical activity as a promoter of successful aging Ageism: psychosocial and sociocultural aspects of physical activity in the elderly Active aging: national and international directives regarding the application of physical activity programs adapted to the elderly Strategies to maximize participation and adherence to training programs Motor activity in old age: advantages and risks associated with training Screening methodologies Optimized forms of physical exercise, such as preventing functional limitations and improving the quality of life Fall prevention in the elderly and teaching strategies to get back to an upright position safely Balance, motor and postural patterns Development of strength and endurance in the elderly Physical activity as a prevention of the condition of sarcopenia Functional evaluation of the elderly through specific tests for various motor conditions Examples of exercises concerning conditional and coordinative motor skills RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY Material provided by the teachers. The assessment of learning for the specific teaching takes place through an oral exam. ASSESSMENT METHODS Through the interview with the student it will be possible to verify the learning of the topics covered in the theoretical part of the course and to test the ability to plan and program a period of motor intervention adapted to the elderly.
