The course provides the theoretical and practical bases on representation, which constitutes the language for the communication of architectural contents, with traditional and digital tools. The methods of representation of three-dimensional space on the plane are the grammar of this language. The history of representation creates a link with the past and allows us to interpret and use contemporary conventions and expressive qualities of architectural drawing.
The aim of the course is the study of scientific methods for the representation and interpretation of architecture, in order to provide the student with the grammar of the language of design. Furthermore, the history of representation creates a link with the past to understand the expressive characteristics of architectural design, and to encourage its conscious use, both in traditional and in digital drawing.
Students will face a theoretical and practical path that will lead to understanding the projective meaning of representation methods (axonometric, orthogonal, perspective and quoted projections). Through these foundations, one will come to interpret and produce a range of architectural drawings capable of communicating one's spatial ideas. Particular attention will be paid to the history of representation to be known not only in notion-driven form but rather by analyzing the conventional and expressive characteristics of drawing and images through the creation of one's elaborations, in the awareness of their meaning in practice and contemporary architectural culture.
The course includes the experimentation of some drawing applications from life and techniques related to traditional and digital drawing tools to encourage continuity between them and the search for one's expressive mode.
Furthermore, it is intended to develop some transversal skills by encouraging creativity, critical reflection on learning methods and the ability to manage social interactions in group work.
/
The teaching will consist of lectures, participatory lessons, and graphic exercises.
The commitment to an active teaching method is required, aimed at developing the transversal skills described in the learning objectives and stimulated through group didactic activity, instant pool, critical discussion (also through World Café sessions) and peer feedback. Some optional collateral activities are proposed to lead to the development of relational skills and to the creation of one's own work which summarizes the themes of geometric bases, the history of representation and the conventional and expressive content of drawing.
People with disabilities or with DSA can apply for compensatory/dispensatory measures for the exam. As the modalities will be defined on a case-by-case basis, students are invited to contact the teachers in advance.

according to the calendar, around mid-october.
The final exam consists of two parts: written exam and oral exam.
The written test contains theoretical questions and graphic exercises on the fundamentals and applications of representation methods.
The oral exam consists in the discussion of the graphic drawings to show the knowledge of the topics covered in the course and the ability to apply it to the analysis and creation of drawings and images.
STUDENTS WHO GET POSITIVE EVALUATIONS IN INTERMEDIATE TESTS (WHICH EXEMPT FROM THE WRITTEN TEST) AND PUNCTUALLY TAKE PART IN THE PROPOSED ACTIVITIES (DELIVERIES IN ITINERE) SUPPORT A REDUCED EXAM.
FINAL ASSESSMENT- Takes into account:
- curriculum of deliveries and revisions for attending students or, for those who do not attend, substitute processing to be agreed and revised (AT LEAST 1 TIME) with the teacher;
- average evaluation of in itinere tests or of the written test;
- evaluation of the graphic excercises;
- evaluation of the monographic exercise;
-oral discussion about themes and exercitation of the course.
