OVERVIEW

The students will acquire knowledge on how to write a thesis and a scientific paper. They will be introduced to the evaluation criteria followed by the scientific journals and by evaluation commissions. Visits to industrial sites and seminars given by industrials will make the students acquainted to the problematics of industrial production.

TEACHING METHODS

The students will read scientific paper and discuss their strength adn weakness with their colleagues.

Visits to industrial facilities will be organized. 

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

The program of the course consists in frontal lectures on bibliography consultation and data banks and on the editorial procedure followed by the major scientific editors. The students will be taught also on wht to pay attention when writing a scientific thesis and a scientific paper. .

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The exam will consist in the presentation of a scientific paper illustrating weaknesses and stregths of the manuscript

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The examination consists of a combination of one written essay up to 20000 characters and one oral interview of 15 minutes during which the student is asked to present the essay. The written essay entails the critical literature review on an assigned topic, where the student is asked to demonstrate the scientific writing techniques learnt during the course. Each student enrolled shall be asked to review the topic from a specific standpoint, with the aim of producing a coherent review manuscript by virtually collating the essays of the entire group. Upon presentation of the essay in front of the examination board and of the fellows, the student shall be asked questions concerning the written essay and the presentation thereof. The focus shall be both on clarity, conciseness, coherence and consistency of the exposition, as well as on the scientific content, as applicable for the degree.
