AIMS AND CONTENT

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

An active participation in the course (lectures and laboratory activities) will allow the student to:

- understand the behavior of a simple linear electric circuit

- understand the classification of materials according to their electrical properties, e.g. insulators, conductors and semiconductors

- learn to analyze the behavior of an electrical circuit

- understand the behavior and application of the diode

- understand the behavior of a MOS transistor as a signal amplifier

- understand the CMOS inverter behavior and NOR and NAND gate circuits

- understand of timing response and power/energy consumption evaluation of CMOS logic gate circuits

- understand the behavior of an operational amplifier

- understand sequential and combinatorial circuits.

- understand the basics of the functioning of electronic systems that exchange data in reception/transmission

Classroom lessons as preparatory to laboratory activities.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

  1. Introduction to linear electrical circuits and components: resistors, independent current and voltage sources, Kirchhoff's laws for currents and voltages.
  2. Capacitor and simple RC circuits
  3. Classification of materials: insulators, conductors and semiconductors
  4. Electronic devices: diodes and transistors.
  5. The MOS transistor as a signal amplifier
  6. CMOS inverter and other logic gates
  7. Analog to digital and digital to analog converters
  8. Sensors
  9. Amplifiers
  10. Energy harvesters
  11. Combinational and sequential logic circuits
  12. IoT systems for environmental monitoring
