AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The course's principal objective is to raise students' awareness of the importance of increasing their communication skills in English by not only using sector-specific content but crucially by exploiting the knowledge and competences acquired during their degree courses, i.e. focusing on what they know rather than what they do not. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES The course aims to increase students’ communicative competence and knowledge in these specific topic areas: shipping law, supply chain actors, port ownership models, Incoterms, customs operations and Authorised Economic Operator status. In detail this means: -improving receptive and productive skills in English as a second language at and beyond B2 level; -provide students with the tools necessary to understand propositional and topic structure and organization in shipping-related texts; -preparing students also for internationally recognized English language certifications at B2 & C1 level CEFR; -becoming confident with using English in a range of settings. PREREQUISITES The minimum level of competence in English as a second or non.native language is B2 (CEFR). Students are strongly advised to already have attended and passed the course 'English language B2 level: development of communicatiion and study skills for EMMP students' or have a valid B2 certificate. TEACHING METHODS Face-to-face lessons based on sector-specific syllabus content with a variety of group and individual task responses. SYLLABUS/CONTENT Teaching resources covering the main topic areas of the post-graduate degree course (shipping law, supply chain actors, port ownership models, Incoterms, customs operations and Authorised Economic Operator status) requiring a minimum level of competence in English as a second language of B2 (CEFR).
