AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES Know the principles of Digital Communication, Man-Machine Interaction and the interfaces of the main Operating Systems. Know the operating principles of the Internet and Computer Networks. Know the operating principles of search engines, SEO / SEM, and related tools. Know the main formats and software tools used in digital media for the design, creation and distribution of digital content (text, images, audio, video, computer graphics). Knowing how to design and create digital content, with particular reference to CMS, social networks, digital audio-video broadcasting, podcasts, web-radio and web-tv. TEACHING METHODS Unit 1 - Digital Communication is compulsory. It will be delivered through lectures and technical-practical laboratory activities in the presence, using Active Learning, Flipped Classroom and Peer Assessment methodologies. Some extra-curricular thematic in-depth seminars complement the main teaching methods. The unit is also associated with some MOOC tutorial courses (both in English and in Italian). SYLLABUS/CONTENT Unit 1 - PART A 1. Digital Communication and ICT Technologies (2 hours) Communication and Technologies of the 21st Century: Digital Convergence, Internet, Information and Knowledge Management, Trends. 2. Man-Machine Interaction and Architectures of Operating Systems (8 hours) The theoretical models of interaction and management of man-machine interfaces, with particular reference to the user interfaces of computers and smart devices (shell, windowed, multimodal, multitouch and natural interfaces). The architectures of operating systems and computer networks, with particular reference to the comparative description between Microsoft (especially Windows 10), Apple (MacOs), Linux (Ubuntu) and mobile (Android, iOS) operating systems. Main components of an Operating System, starting from hardware and software references, moving on to Process Management (scheduling and synchronization), Memory Management (particularly virtual memory and file system), I/O system Management, Device Management, User Interface. 3. Internet, TCP/IP, Search engines, SEO/SEM (8 hours) The operating principles, structure and organization of computer networks, with particular reference to the ISO/OSI model and TCP/IP protocols. The http protocol, the web of data and the Internet of Things Search engines, queries and positioning on search engines, SEO/SEM principles. Unit 1 - PART B 1. Digital content production (10 hours) The main models and theories underlying Digital Communication. Designing software applications and computational thinking: methods, algorithms, tools, data, formats, media. Design and creation of digital contents: Multimedia digital formats for social networks, textual and non-textual Principles of digital image, audio and video processing. Principles of computer graphics. 2. Podcast, Web-Radio and Web-TV laboratory (8 hours) podcast content design and production; organization and production of contents for webradio and webtv. Registration is compulsory electronically via the online exam booking service established by the University. MODE B) (Intermediate quizzes and tests during the course, only for "attending" students) During the course, continuous assessment is foreseen through face-to-face activities carried out in the classroom, in the laboratory and remotely on the platforms made available by the University, with the achievement of the relative scores which will allow access to the final individual assessment (scheduled at the end of the course, on a DATE NOT NECESSARILY COINCIDENT WITH THE OFFICIAL CALL DATES).
