OVERVIEW

The unit is a core unit within the Analysts Program in partnership with AIAF (Italia Association of Financial Analysis). The unit aims at integrating the knowledge acquired during the two years of the Master degree to provide students with a specific expertise to undertake the exam for Certified International Investment Analyst (CIIA).    

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course is a specializing course withing the Financial Analysts Program in partnership with AIAF (Italia association of Financial Analysis). The course integrates the knowledge acquired during the Master degree of Administration Finance and control providing students with a specific expertise in financial analysis and financial instruments evaluation, which are topics included in the exam as Certified International Investment Analyst (CIIA).

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The unit aims to integrate the knolwedge acquired during the Master degree to specifically prepare the students to the contents of the CIIA examination (Certified International Investment Analyst):

At the end of the unit, the students will be capable to

  • comprehend and analyse fixed income and equity evaluation, models
  • comprehend the operations with derivatives (futures e forwards)
  • analyse and understand the strategies of using derivatives (swaps e credit derivatives) and their objectives
  • analyse and discuss different cases and issues of portfolio management (business; hedging; international investments; equity) 
  • analyse, present, and discuss solutions of case study of financial analysis
  • effectively communicate in written and oral form, adapt communication to context, use of sources and various tools
  • identify personal ability, focus, and critical thinking skills
  • manage social interactions, with collaborative attitudes in different contexts.
  • gestire le proprie interazioni sociali, con atteggiamento collaborativo e costruttivo in ambienti differenti.

PREREQUISITES

Students are advised to attend the unit in the second year of the Master degree

TEACHING METHODS

The course makes use of the following teaching methodologies:

  • face-to-face lectures aiming at working on knowledge and comprehension of financial and business concepts and the functioning of the accounting and information system
  • face-to-face tutorials to develop the capability to apply knowledge and critical thinking
  • after each module, students will also engage in think-pair-share activities by discussing theoretical and practical problems in business economics. This will develop advanced functional alphabetic capability, advanced personal capability; advanced social capability.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

The unit develops in 12 lectures with the following contents

  • The roles of financial analysts and the analyst's report
  • Fixed income Valuation and analysis
  • Equity valuation and Analysis
  • Business (valuation) & analysis: capital budgeting; NPV e IIR for Project valuation
  • Operations with Forwards and futures and their valuation
  • Derivatives analysis and strategies; Sensitivity analysis; Credit default swap; alternative investments
  • Portfolio management: time value of money & risk measures; Investment policies; Asset Liability management; International investments; Equity management

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The final exam is a written test that includes MCQ, open theoretical and practical questions.

During the lectures there will be also think-pair-share activities.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The final exam aims at verifying the suitability of the student with regard to the comprehension and knowledge of the topics developed in the unit and the practical application of financial concepts and models.
