The instructor will give the theoretical backround the students need to grasp the underpinnings of the work. This will be linked to a series of practical exercises to hone reading, writing, listening and speaking skills tailored to a business environment. AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The course provides the students with advanced knowledge of English managerial, economic and financial terminology commonly employed in professinal activities, technical reports and research papers. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES Students who have finished this course should be able to work more fluidly in an Enlish-language office envronment in terms of their speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. PREREQUISITES No prerequisite TEACHING METHODS The course is based on in-person communication, which is why attendance, while not manditory is STRONGLY ENCOURAGED for any student wishing to successfully work in an English-language environment. The course is not tradtional, in that new grammar points, new usages and new topics of discussion will be introduced communicatively, with a lot of student participation expected, in an open workshop environment. SYLLABUS/CONTENT We will focus on: Networking and building relationships with a focus on working across cultures, Team building, Raising finance and financial terms, the right register for various forms of spoken and written communication. Students will listen to finance- and business-related podcasts as part of their homework. During the year, groups of students will have the chance to prepare and give an oral presentation about a financial subject. Those students who have done an oral presentation will be evaluated 50% based on their presentation mark and 50% based on their written exam results ONLY if the presentation mark is equal to or higher than the written exam mark.
