Students will also be introducende to the use of documentary sources and to the most relevant historiographic interpretations. AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES At the and of the Course the student is able to: - know the main thematic issues of contemporary history from 1815 to nowadays in Italy, in Europe, in the world. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES The unit gives students the fundamental knowledge of the history of the 19th and 20th century in order to acquire the ability to analyze and critically interpret, in a diachronic and synchronic key, the main problems of the contemporary age: to understand the main issues of the discipline and to follow the events and processes; to interpret critically the data and issues relating to the subject of study and reflection on the main topics, forming independent judgments on them; to communicate, with command of language, information, and issues related to the contemporary history; acquisition of the main basic tools and the ability to use them so that you can deal autonomously further studies in the subject field. PREREQUISITES Knowledge of the Italian language. Basic geographical knowledge of the location of States. TEACHING METHODS The course consists of lecures for a total of 54 hours (equivalent to 9 Cfu), also with the use of powerpoint. The course will be held in face-to- face and online teaching mode. SYLLABUS/CONTENT Specifically, the following topics will be covered: The Congress of Vienna and the Restoration From the uprisings of 1820-1821 to the 1848 uprising The Italian and German unification The Oriental Question The extra-European world: China, Japan, Latin America; the Civil War in the US Imperialism and colonialism Italy of Giolitti From the Russian Revolution of 1905 to the First World War The Russian Revolution The Treaties of Paris and their consequences Post-war and Fascism The Republic of Weimar; Hitler and the Nazis The Second World War The post-war period and the Cold War Large international post-war crisis. It is subdivided in two parts, one regarding the 19th and the other the 20th century. To pass the exam both answers must be sufficient. An intermediate examination on the 19th century is foreseen. ASSESSMENT METHODS The achievement of the training objectives of the course is verified through two questions, one relating to the 19th century and the other to the 20th century. If one of the answer were insufficient, a third question will be posed. An additional question will concern the chosen reading indicated in the program. The final exam will be oral but foreign students can apply to take it in writing, in English or Italian. The candidate must demonstrate critical knowledge of the topics and the ability to organize the speech using an appropriate vocabulary.
