OVERVIEW

The course consists of a description of neurological diseases, with particular emphasis on those that most directly compromise the neurological mechanisms of motility, thus providing a specific work area for the physiotherapist

AIMS AND CONTENT

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The teaching aims to raise awareness of the diseases caused by damage of the central and peripheral nervous system, their pathogenic mechanisms and the disabilities they may entail.

At the end of the course, the student will be able to know the causes, pathophysiology, symptoms, clinical history (evolution and prognosis) of diseases, their diagnostic tools, their disability outcomes and basic concepts of therapy.

TEACHING METHODS

​ Frontal lessons possibly supported or completed by recorded lessons which the student can access online through the Aulaweb platform

Students with certified LSD, disability or other special educational needs are encouraged to contact lecturers at the beginning of the course to agree on teaching methods that, while respecting the teaching objectives, take into account individual learning patterns and provide suitable compensatory tools

• Parkinson's disease and Parkinsonisms with notes on other movement disorders (chorea, dystonia, etc.)

• Multiple sclerosis

• Diseases of the peripheral nerves

• Myopathies

• Myasthenia gravis

• Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis

• Meningitis, encephalitis, myelitis

• Epilepsy

• Dementia

• Coma

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The exam will be oral, save the possibility to take some parts in written mode

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The exam will focus on the topics listed in the program, with special emphasis on those taught duing the lessons.

Students with SLD or with other regularly certified special educational needs will be able to agree with the teacher the written or oral modality, by contacting the teachers at least 10 days before the exam. They can also take advantage of 30% additional time.

When a student is a certified LSD, it is required to contact the Referring Teacher of the DISABILITY and DSA Commission for DINOGMI: Prof. N. Girtler (nicolagirtler@unige.it ) and evaluated the single case, he will send to the teachers the necessary directions both for  lessons development  and for modality of examination
