OVERVIEW

THE AIM OF THIS TEACHING IS TO PROVIDE THE BASIC PRINCIPLES FOR UNDESTANDING HOW REHABILITATION GERIATIC IS DELIVERED IN DIFFERENT CARE CONTEST: FOR PLANNING PREVENTION  AND REHABILITATION WITH AN ACTUAL ASSESSMENT OF DISABILITY, STIMULATING THE ABILITY TO REQUIRED BY THE COMPLEXITY OF GERIATRIC MEDICINE .

AIMS AND CONTENT

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course aims to illustrate the main issues susceptible to rehabilitation treatment in elderly patients.

At the end of the course, the student must:

- Know the principles of geriatric rehabilitation

- Describe the peculiarities of the main pathological outcomes in the elderly

- Identify general and specific objectives

- Evaluate and manage the patient in relation to the clinical history and stage of pathology

- Develop a therapeutic project, using the most suitable prevention and rehabilitation treatment techniques (instrumental, manual, relational) for the specific patient.

TEACHING METHODS

Theoretical lessons for a total of 20 hours (2 cfu)

Students with SLD, disability or other special educational needs certification are strongly encouraged to contact the teachers at the beginning of the course to agree on teaching methods which, respecting the teaching objectives, take into account individual learning methods and provide suitablecompensatory instruments

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

• Meaning of rehabilitation in geriatrics

       1) general notions of aging, chronic diseases, death, quality of life

       2) rehabilitation goals in the elderly patient

• The VMD

• The PAI and the intervention of the physiotherapist

• Main evaluation scales and indicators for a personalized care plan

• Rehabilitation perspectives in patients suffering from osteoporosis and osteomalacia

• Specificity of the rehabilitation objectives in the geriatric patient with:

       1) cardiovascular and / or respiratory pathology

       2) femur fracture

       3) depression and dementia

       4) stroke

       5) lower limb amputation

• AFA: what are afa, organization / management; the physiotherapist in the afa project

• Effects of epilepsy on rehabilitation

• Psychomotor regression syndrome

• The burned patient

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The exam is oral. The grade will be mediated with the evaluations obtained in the other disciplines of the I.C.

Exam sessions will be available for the winter session (January - February) and for the summer session (June, July and September).

ASSESSMENT METHODS

 

It includes at least 2 questions asked by the teachers in charge of teaching.

It will be aimed at evaluating an appropriate knowledge of the topics covered in the module and in any case on all those specified in the program.

Students with DSA or other regularly certified special educational needs will be able to agree with the professor on the written or oral mode of the examination, by contacting professors at least 10 days before the exam. They will also be able to take advantage of 30 % additional time 

FURTHER INFORMATION

In the case of a student with a certified SLD, it is necessary to contact the Referent Professor of the DISABILITY and SLD Commission for DINOGMI: Prof. N. Girtler (nicolagirtler@unige.it ) and, after evaluating the individual case, will send the teachers the necessary information both for the development of the lessons and the way they are carried out of the exam. Students with SLD or with other regularly certified special educational needs will be able to agree with the teacher the written or oral modality, by contacting the teachers at least 10 days before the exam. They can also take advantage of 30% additional time.
