Speech en language therapy is a health discipline that deals with the prevention, evaluation and rehabilitative treatment of pathologies of the voice, oral and written language and communication in the developmental, adult and geriatric age. In general and special speech therapy rehabilitation, the principles governing speech and cognitive rehabilitation in adults in various pathological conditions are illustrated.
At the end of the course, the student must:
• Knowing how to analyze the role of verbal and non-verbal communication in the therapy of acquired cognitive deficits
• Knowing how to interpret and analyze language disorders and cognitive deficits in the aphasic adult patient, and in the head trauma patient and in patients with other pathologies that impact on the function of language.
• Knowing how to use speech therapy information for neuromotor rehabilitation
Lessons take place in the first semester of the third year through lectures that make use of slide projections.
The modality is interactive and may also include presentation of clinical cases aimed at stimulating the student's critical sense and problem-solving ability.
The course consists of theoretical / practical frontal lessons for a total of 10 hours (1 CFU)
Students with SLD, disability or other special educational needs certification are strongly encouraged to contact the teachers at the beginning of the course to agree on teaching methods which, respecting the teaching objectives, take into account individual learning methods and provide suitable compensatory instruments.
Assessment of language disturbance by standardized test (eg: Aachener Aphasie Test).

Students with DSA or other regularly certified special educational needs will be able to agree with the professor on the written or oral mode of the examination, by contacting professors at least 10 days before the exam. They will also be able to take advantage of 30 % additional time
When a student is a certified DSA, it is required to contact the Referring Teacher of the DISABILITY and DSA Commission for DINOGMI: Prof. N. Girtler (nicolagirtler@unige.it ) and evaluated the single case, he will send to the teachers the necessary directions both for lessons development and for modality of examination
