AIMS AND CONTENT

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

to acquire knowledge and practical skills for the first aid approach to cardiac arrest and to the use of AED and in General Medicine first aid

to be able to recognize the most common diseases in Internal Medicine

TEACHING METHODS

lectures (in presence or on-line) with audiovisual support

interactive lecture  on a BLS-D manikin

Students with certified DSA, disability or other special educational needs are encouraged to contact lecturers at the beginning of the course to agree on teaching methods that, while respecting the teaching objectives, take into account individual learning patterns and provide suitable compensatory tools

 

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

First aid and initial treatment of cardiac arrest, with notions on the semi-automatic external defibrillator.

Cardiovascular system: Acute myocardial infarction, Cardiac arrhythmias, Cardiovascular decompensation, Hypertension, Syncopes, lipothymias

Respiratory system: Acute respiratory failure, Asthma, COPD

Endocrinology: Dystyroidism, Hyper-hypo surrealism, Diabetes

Thromboembolic disease: Deep vein thrombosis, Pulmonary embolism

Abdomen: Acute abdomen Mechanical or paralytic ileus, Biliary tract obstruction, Pancreatitis

Urinary system: Acute renal failure, Chronic renal failure, Edema Urinary tract infections, Urinary tract stones,

Hematopoietic system: Leukemias, Lymphoid cell neoplasms, Anemias, polyglobulias, thrombocytopenias and thrombocytosis

Nervous system: Epilepsy, Ischemic and haemorrhagic stroke

EXAM DESCRIPTION

multiple choice questions (15 questions with 4 possible answers, of which only one is correct)

ASSESSMENT METHODS

Capacity to apply the acquired knowledge by choosing the right answer in a multiple choice questions

Students with SLD or other regularly certified special educational needs will be able to agree on written or oral modalities with the teacher, by contacting the teachers at least 10 days before the exam. They can also take advantage of 30% additional time.

When a student is a certified DSA, it is required to contact the Referring Teacher of the DISABILITY and DSA Commission for DINOGMI: Prof. N. Girtler (nicolagirtler@unige.it ) and evaluated the single case, he will send to the teachers the necessary directions both for  lessons development  and for modality of examination
