AIMS AND CONTENT

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The purpose of the teaching is to introduce the learner to the general concepts of rehabilitation of the traumatized hand, especially in the treatment of nerve and tendon injuries

 The course aims to provide students with information on the use of braces and physical therapies for a correct rehabilitation approach.

Attendance to the course and individual study will allow the student to:

Know the anatomy, physiology and kinesiology of the hand and tendons and semeiotics of the median, ulnar, radial nerve

Know the problems related to the traumatology of the hand

Know the general concepts of rehabilitation of the traumatized hand

At the end of the course the student will know:

- carry out a specific functional evaluation in hand trauma

- develop a clinical reasoning, based on the results of the functional assessment and the identification of objectives, aimed at planning the physiotherapy intervention in the specific area

TEACHING METHODS

The course consists of theoretical lectures for a total of 10 hours (1 CFU)
Students with SLD, disability or other special educational needs certification are strongly encouraged to contact the teachers at the beginning of the course to agree on teaching methods that, respecting the teaching objectives, take into account individual learning methods and provide suitable compensatory instruments.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Hints of anatomy, physiology and kinesiology of the hand and tendons and semeiotics of the median, ulnar, radial nerve

Specific evaluation of the traumatized hand: feeling deficits, motor deficits, image,

edema, adhesions and tissue scarring.

Tendon lesion areas.

Types of sockets.

The evaluation form of the hand and specific tests.

Rehabilitation treatment of the traumatized hand with possible involvement of nerve (motor, sensitive) and tendon lesions, protocols

Rehabilitation tools

Hand and wrist orthoses

Education, therapeutic alliance and home protocols

Reasons for failure of rehabilitation treatment

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

Oral exam and includes at least two questions asked by a teacher of the discipline.

The grade will be mediated with that obtained in the other disciplines

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The oral exam aims to verify the knowledge acquired relating to the program of the discipline., Will investigate the ability to critically analyze the problems, the clinical reasoning ability of the student in relation to the topics covered and the knowledge acquired

Language properties, clarity of presentation, consequentiality of reasoning and analytical capacity will also be evaluated.

Students with SLD or other regularly certified special educational needs will be able to agree on written or oral modalities with the teacher, by contacting the teachers at least 10 days before the exam. They can also take advantage of 30% additional time

When a student is a certified LSD, it is required to contact the Referring Teacher of the DISABILITY and DSA Commission for DINOGMI: Prof. N. Girtler (nicolagirtler@unige.it ) and evaluated the single case, he will send to the teachers the necessary directions both for  lessons development  and for modality of examination
