AIMS AND CONTENT

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The teaching of statistics linked to experimental research will allow master's graduates to organize and manage with mastery the techniques and procedures of health management, respecting their own and others' skills. In particular, the student must be able to quantitatively measure the spread of a disease by calculating the prevalence and incidence, assess the impact on health of risk factors, by calculating attributable risk, relative risk and odds ratio and also being able to describe the characteristics, advantages and disadvantages of the main types of epidemiological studies (cross-sectional, cohort, case-control).

TEACHING METHODS

The course is held through lectures and theoretical-practical lessons during which exercises will be proposed with the use of Jamovi open statistical software.

Students with SLD, disability or other special educational needs certification are strongly encouraged to contact the teachers at the beginning of the course to agree on teaching methods which, respecting the teaching objectives, take into account individual learning methods and provide suitable compensatory instruments.

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The final evaluation will be carried out through a written test with multiple choice problems and quizzes.

Exam dates will be published on Aulaweb.

The exams of the integrated courses are held in the Genoese university in a single moment and the Examination Commissions, chaired by the Coordinators of the integrated courses or by their delegates, must be composed in accordance with the provisions of Article 29 c.5 and c. 6 of the University Didactic Regulations.

As per the Degree Course's Didactic Regulations, exams can only be taken in the periods dedicated to this and called exam sessions. The moments of verification usually cannot coincide with the periods in which the training activities take place.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The written exam consists of about 15 multiple-choice tests from 5 possible answers, an epidemiology problem with a free answer and a problem that verifies the ability to reason and apply the acquired knowledge and problem solving skills. The answers provided in the assignment can later be discussed with the student

Students with SLD or with other regularly certified special educational needs will be able to agree with the teacher the written or oral modality, by contacting the teachers at least 10 days before the exam. They can also take advantage of 30% additional time.
