CODE 58201 ACADEMIC YEAR 2024/2025 CREDITS 5 cfu anno 1 SCIENZE E TECNICHE DELLO SPORT 8749 (LM-68) - GENOVA LANGUAGE Italian TEACHING LOCATION GENOVA SEMESTER 1° Semester TEACHING MATERIALS AULAWEB OVERVIEW The course aims to provide the fundamentals in the use of Information Technology and English for Sports Science. AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The course prepares the students to reach an effective level of knowledge and understanding of English for Sports Science as well as developing their IT skills to meet the challenges of a modern professional world. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES English Language At the end of the course, students will be able to: undertsand the main points in English on familiar topics related to sport express themselves clearly and concisely on familiar topics related to sport describe a sport and relate their experience and ambitions IT Skills At the end of the course, students will be able to: use the LibreOffice suite, especially Calc, to analyze, process and visualize data access thematic and bibliographic databases available online. PREREQUISITES English Language Being a master's course, the student must have acquired, during the three-year course, a B1 level of English according to the parameters of the Common European Framework of Reference. IT Skills To make conscious use of spreadsheets, the student must have basic mathematical skills and reasoning and analysis abilities, typically covered in undergraduate maths courses. TEACHING METHODS English Language Lessons will be held in face-to-face classes for a total of 20 hours over 10 weeks.Lesson attendance is compulsory as per the Education Regulations. The lessons will be given entirely in English with the aim of developing reading, listening, speaking and writing skills. They envisage practical exercises, communicative activities and problem-solving through collaborative learning: pairwork, groupwork. Lessons are enhanced by the use of multimedia and online resources. The teaching material is available on Microsoft Teams and/or aulaweb. The students are advised to bring a laptop or tablet to the lessons. IT Skills Lessons and guided workshops will be held in face-to-face classes for a total of 20 hours over 10 weeks. The teaching material will be available on the Aulaweb module, and will include links to videos and online resources. Students are required to have a laptop, and will receive assistance installing LibreOffice with English user interface. Any Student with documented Specific Learning Disorders (SLD), or with any special needs, should contact the Lecturer(s) and to the dedicated SLD Representative in the Department before class begins, in order to liaise and arrange the specific teaching methods so that the learning aims and outcomes may be met. SYLLABUS/CONTENT English Language The course includes the presentation and discussion of the following topics: Daily conversation Sport and leisure Body and movement Health and injuries Sports rules and techniques Experience and ambitions IT Skills The course includes introductory lessons followed by guided workshops on how to find information on the web and process and display data using Calc. In detail, the topics covered will be: an overview of the operating system and the file system use of compressed archives (zip format) general features of spreadsheets data entry, import (csv format), editing and formatting charts for displaying tabular data formulas, functions, absolute/relative references, mnemonic names filters to hide/rearrange data pivot tables to create aggregated data data analysis tools export of sheets in pdf format (optional) online information: open data, thematic banks, bibliographic banks. RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY English Language The teaching material (specific texts on grammar, vocabulary and various links) will be made available on aulaweb and/or Microsoft Teams. IT Skills The teaching material (including any video recordings) will be made available on aulaweb. The class timetable will be available at the following link: https://easyacademy.unige.it/portalestudenti/ Class schedule ENGLISH AND COMPUTER SCIENCE FOR SPORTS EXAMS EXAM DESCRIPTION The exam consists of two independent tests: an oral test in English and a laboratory test with LibreOffice. A final pass is obtained by passing both tests. ASSESSMENT METHODS English Language The oral exam will evaluate the ability to undertsand familiar topics related to sport, express the acquired knowledge in a clear and concise manner, describe their sport and relate their experience and ambitions using the specialized lexis correctly. IT Skills The test assesses the ability to adequately use the Calc spreadsheet.
