OVERVIEW

The 'Psychobiology and psychological profile of the Athlete' module is part of the Integrated Course 'Psychological and Sociological Aspects of Sports Performance' with two others.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

This teaching focuses on all the activities of the organism of those who practice sport, including mental processes, in correlation with the biological bases. Furthermore, it provides the essential knowledge to identify and understand the peculiar characteristics of the athlete: to this end, it analyzes theories and methods - scientifically accredited - aimed at identifying the psychological profile of the athlete himself, based both on the behavior detectable in the sporting field , and on the patterns of psychological interaction rooted in his personality structure.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

We will examine the fundamental concepts for the framework of the physiological and psychological processes underlying some cognitive and emotional states related to sporting activity. In particular, the ways in which the athlete acquires and uses information, learns new knowledge, makes decisions and changes attention styles towards the environment will be evaluated. This will result in an attempt to outline and recognize the psychological profile of the athlete himself.

TEACHING METHODS

Lectures and collective discussion.

Any Student with documented Specific Learning Disorders (SLD), or with any special needs, should contact the Lecturer(s) and to the dedicated SLD Representative in the Department before class begins, in order to liaise and arrange the specific teaching methods so that the learning aims and outcomes may be met.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT
