The aim of the course is the one to confer elementary skills connected with the relations between the microstructure and the chemical-physical and mechanical performance of a material and its resistance to corrosion and degradation, according to the principles of the science and technology of the materials. Finally, attention will be paid to the design of the material and to its selection, also based on economic criteria.
Raise the student's awareness of the relationship between microstructural characteristics and functional properties of a material with particular reference to ceramic materials Acquire knowledge aimed at identifying the types of tests necessary to evaluate the suitability of a material for carrying out a specific function.
The aim of the course is to give to the student basic skills on the microstructural and mechanical properties of materials.
The student will acquire the ability to identify which materials are suitable in a given process and which treatments improve their characteristics and extend their life-time.

Calendar, II semester
The exam will take place orally through an interview. The student will present a topic of his choice, among those covered during the course, which will be integrated by some specific questions from the teacher. A further question chosen by the teacher, relative to a second topic among those covered, will complete the exam.
The exam evaluates the student ability in the choose of the most suitable material in a process.
Working students and students with certified DSA, disabilities or other special educational needs are advised to contact the teacher at the beginning of the course to agree on teaching and exam methods
Students who have valid certification of physical or learning disabilities on file with the University and who wish to discuss possible accommodations or other circumstances regarding lectures, coursework and exams, should speak both with the instructor and with Professor Sergio Di Domizio (sergio.didomizio@unige.it), the Department’s disability liaison.
