The Integrated Course in Clinical Pathology I and Medical Technical Sciences is the first course of the I year of the CDS characterizing the profession of Biomedical Laboratory Technician. The students, after having followed the lessons common to all the Health Professions Study Courses, in this integrated course will have their first approach to Laboratory Medicine and its fundamental bases that characterize it, in order to have the knowledge that will allow them to understand the subjects covered in the subsequent years of the course.
Acquire basic knowledge on analysis laboratories, organization and knowledge of the specificities in the various laboratory branches; acquire in-depth knowledge of blood components, the function of the marrow and the maturation processes of the different blood cell lines, with the related pathologies; acquisition of the techniques, execution and reporting of the blood count and the search for pathological Hb variants; acquisition of skills on primary and secondary haemostasis, coagulation factors, related pathologies and laboratory tests associated with evaluation of hemostasis; acquisition of the quality bases and verification of the reliability of laboratory results, analytical goals, critical difference, CV and clinical correlation. calibrations and quality controls; spectrophotometry and colorimetric reactions; enzymatic reactions, potentiometry, turbidimetry and nephelometry, errors in the laboratory and the phases of the analytical process; Methods for determining the main parameters assayed in clinical chemistry; urinalysis and health legislation. Indicators of tissue distress: markers of cardiac, hepatic, renal, pancreatic and muscle damage. acid base balance, blood gas analysis, immunosuppressant drugs and urgent/emergency toxicological tests.

Have passed the preparatory exams as required by the Teaching Regulations.
Frontal lessons with the maximum possible teacher-student interactivity.
Students with documented Specific Learning Disorders (SLD), or with any special needs, shall reach out to the Lecturer(s) and to the dedicated SLD Representative in the Department before class begins, in order to arrange the specific teaching methods and ensure proper achievement of the learning aims and outcomes.

Verification of the skills acquired with an oral exam, divided in two session, the first about theoretical subjects, the second about more practical subjects.
During the exam, the rules regarding the assessment method of DSA certified students or students with other educational needs indicated by the university will be respected. (e.g.: additional time in the case of written exams, use of concept maps to be viewed for approval by the teachers at least one week before the exam date).
Students must demonstrate that they have acquired the skills related to all the courses of the Integrated Course.
If the candidate has not achieved the minimum objectives, the exam will not be deemed passed
