AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES Acquire basic knowledge of immunology and genetics of the ABO and Rh major blood group systems; transfusion compatibility tests; platelet and leukocyte antigens; use of direct and indirect Coombs tests. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES Aim of the course is to provide the students with the tools necessary to perform: blood component testing and labeling, collection, preparation, storage and distribution of components from whole blood donations. TEACHING METHODS Classroom-taught lecture SYLLABUS/CONTENT Blood groups; blood component testing and labeling; Collection, preparation, storage, and distribution of components from whole blood donations; Red Cell antigen-antibody reactions and their detection, pretrasfusion testing, quality control.
