The Immunohaematology cours deals with the laboratory tests in blood transfusion and preparation of blood components.
Acquire basic knowledge of immunology and genetics of the ABO and Rh major blood group systems; transfusion compatibility tests; platelet and leukocyte antigens; use of direct and indirect Coombs tests.
Aim of the course is to provide the students with the tools necessary to perform: blood component testing and labeling, collection, preparation, storage and distribution of components from whole blood donations.

Blood groups; blood component testing and labeling; Collection, preparation, storage, and distribution of components from whole blood donations; Red Cell antigen-antibody reactions and their detection, pretrasfusion testing, quality control.

The student will be tested on the knowledge of the topics covered during the lessons. Knowledge and definition of blood groups and pre-transfusion investigations are considered necessary for the exam to be approved.
