Understanding and using the framework of analytical mechanics for the resolution of various mechanical problems. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES At the end of the learing path the student will be able to: - describe the dynamics of free and constrained systems of material points - describe the dynamics of rigid bodies - use the Euler-Lagrange equations to descrube those dynamics - find equilibrium configurations of mechanical systems - analyze the stability of equilibrium configurations of those systems TEACHING METHODS The course consits in 60 hours of lectures. During these lectures the lecturer will present the theory and some of its applications SYLLABUS/CONTENT Introduction Point Particle Kinematics of a point particle Mechanics of a free and constrained point particle Mechanics and different observers Observer, reference frames, derivatives and Poisson formula Kinematics for different observers Mechanics for different observers Discrete systems Third Newton principlie and internal forces Balance of linear and angular momentum Center of mass Rigid Body Rigid body and distributions of velocities Kinematics Tensor of inerzia Mechanics of the rigid body Constrained rigid body Analytical mechanics Holonomic systems Ideal constraints Euler-Lagrange equations Euler-Lagrange equations and balance equations Introduction to the study of stability Equilibrium configurations for mechanical systems and their stability Approximation of small oscillations RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY Notes provided by the lecturer TEACHERS AND EXAM BOARD NICOLA PINAMONTI Ricevimento: By appointment. Students with learning disorders ("disturbi specifici di apprendimento", DSA) will be allowed to use specific modalities and supports that will be determined on a case-by-case basis in agreement with the delegate of the Engineering courses in the Committee for the Inclusion of Students with Disabilities. ASSESSMENT METHODS The oral exam aims to verify the level of knowledge achieved by the student and the ability to solve specific problems.
