PREREQUISITES The basic knowledge necessary to understand the topics covered in the course concern the following subjects: Mathematics, Geometry, Physics, Chemistry, Thermodynamics. TEACHING METHODS Theoretical lessons and exercises. SYLLABUS/CONTENT Generality: Energy conversion machinery classification. Main energy typologies and sources. Main physical and thermodynamic laws. Engines plants: Steam, gas turbine and combined plants: reference cycles, work, power, efficiency calculation and components (turbines, compressor, pumps) shape and working description. Optimization and governor methods. Internal combustion engines: Typology, thermodynamic cycles, shape, supercharging, delivered power governor. Pollutant emissions and reduction methods. Fan and Compressor: Stage organization, physical working principles, blade shape. Pumps: Typology. Physical working principles. Cavitation and volumetric flow governor.
