OVERVIEW

The course aims to provide the necessary computer tools for the management and processing of data, especially chemical data that students will get in laboratory exercises. The course is divided into lectures and computer exercises. During the lectures, the teacher illustrates the various features of Microsoft Excel or Calc-Open Office and during the exercises the students try to solve specific problems with the help of the teacher.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The aim of the course is to present the use of spreadsheets for the performance of the most common data analysis techniques. Particular emphasis will be given to those mathematical-statistical tools that students will have to apply during their course of study, especially in laboratory activities.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

Learn how to use Excel to organize, manage data tables and extract from them the necessary information for the purpose of the problem.

TEACHING METHODS

The course is divided into lectures and exercises that take place in turn in the computer room. During the lectures the theory is addressed while during the computer exercises is given to each student to put into practice the acquired knowledge. During the tutorials each student is provided with the text of a problem on Word document and its data on Excel sheet. The problem is briefly described by the teacher and then the students have at least an hour to try to solve it. In the end the problem is dealt with by the teacher and commented.

Any Student with documented Specific Learning Disorders (SLD), or with any special needs, shall reach out to the Lecturer(s) and to the dedicated SLD Representative in the Department ( Prof. Luca Raiteri, Luca.Raiteri@unige.it ) before class begins, in order to liaise and arrange the specific learning methods and ensure proper achievement of the learning aims and outcomes. VERY IMPORTANT: any request for compensatory tools and adaptations in the exam MUST be done within 10 working days before the date of the exam according to the instructions that can be found at https://unige.it/disabilita-dsa/comunicazioni

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The exam is carried out solely by means of a mathematical-statistical calculation on the computer using the computer Excel. The test focuses on the program carried out during the lectures and its average duration is 45-60 minutes in the presence of the teacher. The papers and any corrections are discussed with the students concerned
