CODE 83834 ACADEMIC YEAR 2024/2025 CREDITS 6 cfu anno 2 DIGITAL HUMANITIES - INTERACTIVE SYSTEMS AND DIGITAL MEDIA 11661 (LM-92) - SAVONA SCIENTIFIC DISCIPLINARY SECTOR SPS/12 LANGUAGE Italian (English on demand) TEACHING LOCATION SAVONA SEMESTER 1° Semester MODULES Questo insegnamento è un modulo di: SOCIAL MEDIA ED ERA DIGITALE TEACHING MATERIALS AULAWEB AIMS AND CONTENT AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES The main objective of the lectures is to offer knowledge and interpretative tools for understanding social changes, introduced by the new social media, in both: the way of defining deviance and the control and marginalization devices of individuals. Critical and gender perspectives will be privileged in both directions. TEACHING METHODS - Frontal and remote synchronous lessons; - Exercises/small groups activities; - Classroom discussions on the topics dealt with, starting from the analysis of case studies. Students with disabilities or DSA are allowed to use specific modalities and supports that will be determined on a case-by-case basis in agreement with the Delegate of the Engineering courses in the Committee for the Inclusion of Students with Disabilities. Introduction: a) theories of deviance and of social control; b) new social media, digital economy and digital surveillance; c) online hate speech and the GDPR. 1. The classical and neo-classical paradigm; 2. Positivist criminology and new-positivism; 3. Functionalist perspectives and subcultural theories of deviance; 4. Criticism of functionalism: 5. Labeling approach; 6. Panopticon and digital panopticon; 7. Dataveillance and digital vulnerability; 8. Hate speech online and tools to prevent and combat it; 9. ASSESSMENT METHODS The exercises, the small group activities, the classroom thematic discussions and finally the oral interview will aim at evaluating the learning and the reworking of the contents from the candidates, as well as their critical reasoning skills and their public speaking ability.
