TEACHING MATERIALS AULAWEB

OVERVIEW

The main industrial chemical processes for the production of fuels, nuclear fuels, semiconducting, metallic and polymeric materials as well as for the waste gases purifications are described and discussed technically.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course aims to provide an in-depth knowledge of the main processes of industrial chemistry related to energy production, a critical analysis of the motivations of the solutions used in the production of the main products and the criteria for a correct approach to the design of a chemical process in terms productivity, safety and protection of environment.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

In particular, the objective is, starting from the detailed analysis of the industrial chemical processes currently used for the production of fuels, fuels and materials, to provide the student with the necessary knowledge to be able to evaluate the possible and the best solutions for the choice of these products and for the assessment of alternative technologies that use them.

Overall, the student will acquire the ability to evaluate, in practical terms and based on the composition of raw materials, as well as the thermodynamic, kinetic, economic and environmental aspects, the reasons for the technical choices of existing processes and to design, similarly , processes and innovative technologies.

TEACHING METHODS

The module includes lectures and visits to chemical plants.

Working students and students with DSA certification, disabilities or other special educational needs are advised to contact the teacher at the beginning of the course to agree on teaching and exam methods which, in compliance with the teaching objectives, take into account individual learning methods.

Students who have valid certification of physical or learning disabilities on file with the University and who wish to discuss possible accommodations or other circumstances regarding lectures, coursework and exams, should speak both with the instructor and with Professor Federico Scarpa (federico.scarpa@unige.it  ), the Polytechnic School's disability liaison.

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

Oral exam, in English. The exam will consist of three questions on three topics covered during the course. In one of these aspects of the characteristics of the products will be analyzed in one of the characteristics of processes, in a third aspect of an environmental and chemical nature.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The students' ability to critically discuss the characteristics of the fuels and materials used at an industrial level and the processes necessary to produce them will be verified, it will be possible to evaluate the student's knowledge and depth of understanding of the chemical, energetic aspects , economic and environmental aspects of chemical technologies associated with the development of energy technologies.
