TEACHING MATERIALS AULAWEB

OVERVIEW

The teaching module presents and deepens the fundamentals of design, with particular regard to the conventions and practices of use in the nautical and naval field.

AIMS AND CONTENT

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of the teaching module, the student will be able to:

  •     Recognize methods of representation and understand the fundamental conventions governing graphic expression and language;
  •     Apply some of the main methods of representation - orthogonal and axonometric projections - with particular reference to the nautical field.
  •     Building a visual narrative on a design theme, thanks to the skills acquired in relation to methods, tools and techniques of representation.

TEACHING METHODS

The module consists of weekly lessons of 4 hours, divided between a part in frontal mode, dedicated to the presentation and the theoretical deepening, and a part of application exercise inherent to the topic addressed.

Each assignment is delivered by the student and returned correct by the teacher in the next lesson.

There will be on-going reviews, approximately halfway through and at the end of the class period, in preparation for the final test.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

The teaching program covers the following topics, deepened and contextualized from time to time also in relation to the naval and nautical field:

- Definitions of conventions and basic design elements;

- Principles of projective and descriptive geometry;

- Orthogonal projections: the Gaspard Monge method;

- Sections and applications, such as the Vessel Construction Plan;

- Axonometry: three-dimensional representations and formal investigations;

- Visual narration: sketching, use of colour and rendering of materials with analog techniques.

For each topic there will be a hand drawing exercise.

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The final exam consists of an ex-tempore drawing test on a subject chosen by the student, previously discussed and agreed with the teacher. The test aims to demonstrate the level of mastery acquired in the application of representation methods and graphic expression skills necessary for the comprehensive visual narration of the chosen theme.

The final grade comes from the average score between the in-progress exercises mark and that of the final test.

Exercises that reported a negative assessment may be re-run and re-evaluated, in which case only the best score will be taken into account.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The actual achievement of the expected learning results is verified both in progress, with the evaluation of the monothematic exercises assigned from time to time, and at the end of the course, with the development of the final test.

The evaluation of the in-progress exercises and of the final test takes into account the accuracy in the application of the methods of representation, the completeness of the contents with respect to the request, the level of graphic and expressive maturity achieved. Each of these parameters is evaluated in tenths, contributing to the formulation of the assessment in thirtieths by means of the sum of the three.

The on-going reviews contribute to the monitoring of the learning process and acquisition of expected skills.
