OVERVIEW

Spanish Language and Translation I (12 CFU) includes a year-long Spanish Language Course and a first-semester Theoretical Module.

Spanish I as a third language (6 CFU) covers only the Spanish Language Course and corresponds to the Lingua Spagnola I (code 55874) of the degree course in Modern Languages and Cultures (LCM).

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The objective is a theoretical reflection on linguistic phenomena in a Spanish-Italian contrastive perspective. It provides the support of intensive language tutorials aimed at learning Spanish and an introduction to Spanish-Italian translation.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

Theoretical Module (Ana de Hériz)

The objective of the course is to provide students with the tools to understand the different linguistic components of Spanish that are used in communicative activities, paying special attention to the phonological/phonetic, morphological and lexical levels, in order to encourage an approach that contrasts with Italian and/or the mother tongues of the learners. Different variants of Spanish in the world will be considered.

Students who decide not to attend the lectures in the theory module are required to notify the Teacher (Ana Lourdes de Hériz).

Spanish Language Course

  • The 1st year Spanish Language Course aims at a linguistic-cultural preparation at the B2 level:

Can understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in his/her field of specialisation. Can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party. Can produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options”.

  • Introductory translation exercises will also be carried out.

Students in possession of a DELE Diploma certificate from the Instituto Cervantes must bring a photocopy of the certificate containing their test scores to this first meeting (a Diploma that just says APTO is not enough). EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The skills acquired during the Theoretical Module will be assessed by means of several tests. On the one hand, a written and oral examination (on the same date and time as the roll call) and, on the other hand, a paper in which the skills acquired in the bilingual lexicography seminar must be demonstrated.
For the Lectureship, a written and an oral examination (in two different appeals). The written exam of the Lectureship is preparatory to the oral exam (you must therefore have passed the written exam to be able to take the oral exam).

ASSESSMENT METHODS

THEORETICAL MODULE (for 12 CFU):

he written test is divided into several multiple-choice exercises (tests) that assess knowledge of fundamental concepts, the ability to apply theories of applied linguistics to the analysis of the Spanish language and the main characteristics of its variants. The short oral interview checks the assimilation of concepts gathered from the compulsory reading bibliography. These two tests assign a grade with a weighting of 80% in the final grade of the theoretical module. The remaining 20% is obtained as a percentage with the grade obtained for the final work in the biblingue lexicography seminar.

Spanish Language Course:

In the written examination, the linguistic-communicative competence of level B2 of the European Language Reference Framework is assessed by means of auditory comprehension, various exercises and a composition. The oral interview involves checking oral expression and interaction and the cultural content of the course, as well as the knowledge acquired in the introduction exercises on text types and translation..
