AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The course provides students with the tools for metalinguistic analysis, with a special focus on specialized texts, in order to enhance students’ translation and interpreting skills between Italian and Spanish. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES The course aims at providing students with knowledge and skills in order to understand the theoretical and practical basis of translation and interpreting. The following modules will be taught: technical-scientific translation and post-editing, and consecutive interpreting. Develop knowledge and train skills in professional translation and interpreting from both a theoretical and a practical point of view, combining research perspectives and professional standards. Develop self-assessment skills. At the end of the course students will be able to: Identify and solve translation problems in a strategic and effective manner, also taking into account as many contextual and situational variables as possible for each assignment. Apply knowledge, techniques and tools learnt in a functional and useful way according to the communicative situation and context. Autonomously organise and network with other colleagues in order to apply their competences in a cooperative way. PREREQUISITES None TEACHING METHODS Lectures and interpreting/translation practice, including team work. SYLLABUS/CONTENT Theoretical module: In the theory module, students will be introduced to the theories underlying the various practical exercises of the course. Technical-scientific translation and post-editing: translation practice of technical-scientific texts (also using CAT tools) combined with training in translation-related soft skills. Interpreting: consecutive interpreting and sight translation practice from and into Spanish combined with training in interpreting-related soft skills. Special emphasis will be placed on the interpreter’s role in a changing labour market, where Tablet Interpreting and CAI Tools are being increasingly used. RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY Only the theory module has a compulsory bibliography, which will be indicated as soon as the departmental council has assigned the course holder. Please note that teaching materials are the same for both attending and non-attending students. Technical-scientific translation and post-editing: a translation test from and into Spanish, after the submission of individual dossiers (“carpetas”) containing all the assignments carried out during the course. Interpreting module: an consecutive interpreting exercise from Spanish into Italian and vice-versa. ASSESSMENT METHODS The following aspects will be taken into account in the evaluation: appropriateness and functionality; accuracy, precision and reliability of both content and form (e.g. paralinguistic and para-verbal aspects in the interpretation test; format and task management aspects in the case of translation). Evaluations of the progress of the learning process carried out by means of multiple tools: in progress (through tools and methods such as peer evaluation during distance learning, corrections of both written and oral products, feedback from outsiders in the case of simulations, etc.) and with final tests both written and oral.
