OVERVIEW

The course provides the students with advanced skills in Swedish language to reach the C2 level of the CEFR. The linguistic module aims at presenting the diacronic development of the Scandinavian languages in a comparative perspective.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Building on the skills acquired during the Bachelor's degree, the course aims at teaching the students how to use the Swedish language in advanced contexts. In order to to this, the course is divided into two parts: a one-semester linguistics module and a two-semester practical language module

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The theoretical module of the course aims to present the diachronic development of the Scandinavian languages from their common Germanic origin, through the ancient and medieval phases, up to the present day. At the conclusion of this module, students will be able to understand short texts in the continental Scandinavian languages other than Swedish and to present, in its main aspects, the historical reasons behind the current Scandinavian linguistic landscape.

Language classes aim to bring students from level C1 to level C2 of the Common European Framework, both in written and oral production, as well as in written and oral comprehension. At the end of the course, students will have acquired a level of proficiency in Swedish for complex situations, easily understanding what they read and hear and expressing themselves spontaneously, also providing arguments, in a fluent and precise manner.

 

PREREQUISITES

A linguistic competence equivalent to the C1 level of the Common European Framework.

TEACHING METHODS

The course will be taught in presence. Multimedia materials will be available on the Aulaweb platform. The students who are not able to attend classes should contact the teachers

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

The linguistic module aims at presenting the diacronic development of the Scandinavian languages in a comparative perspective.

The annual practical course will focus on the reading and comment of complex texts, on reading and listening exercises and on the production of both oral and written argumentative texts.

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The practlcal course is assessed through a written exam constituted by reading, listening and the writing of an argumentative essay. A monolingual dictionary can be used during this part of the exam. Speaking skills are assessed in a oral conversation on current themes and events.

The theoretical module is assessed in an oral exam - in either Italian or Swedish according to the candidate's preference - on the topics of the course.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The oral exam on the linguistics module will deal with the most significant features of the phonology, morphology, syntax and vocabulary of the Scandinavian languages in their historical phases, on the periodization problems, as well as on the syncronic relationship between the Scandinavian languages.

The practical exam will verify the candidate's ability to understand and produce highly complex texts both in written and in spoken form.

The final mark is the arithmetic mean of the marks obtained in the three parts, each weighing 33% ot the total.
