The laboratory emphasizes the importance of culture as a means to provide flexibility and adaptability in an ever-evolving job market. The objective is to investigate and understand visionary and utopian architecture as a fundamental scientific basis of architectural and urban composition. The course aims to stimulate critical reflection on beauty in architecture, going beyond conventional notions of harmony, balance, and perfection. Students will learn to evaluate and interpret visionary and utopian architectural projects, developing the ability to think critically and creatively. The course will lead them to reflect on architecture as an event rather than an object, also exploring the notions of the picturesque and the sublime. TEACHING METHODS The course combines theoretical lectures with a practical and interactive approach. In addition to ex-cathedra lessons, a fundamental component of the laboratory will be the production of graphic/design works by the students, created using artificial intelligence software specifically designed for graphic production. This practical work will allow students to explore the concepts and ideas of the course. The creation of graphic/design works will enable students to express their understanding and interpretation of visionary architecture, developing specific technical and creative methods. Periodic reviews of the work progress will ensure constant advancement and constructive feedback from the teaching staff. The ex-cathedra lessons will be mainly dedicated to themes of visionary architecture, artificial intelligence software, and visual communication. SYLLABUS/CONTENT The course addresses the theme of sustainability from a strictly architectural point of view, focusing on aspects related to built volumes and their land occupation. It experiments with extreme density solutions that allow large amounts of land to remain permeable. Obviously, such solutions require a systemic rethinking of normal living conditions, hence the utopian/visionary character of the course. RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY Specific readings will be assigned on a weekly basis.
