OVERVIEW

The discipline of urban planning is defined as the set of techniques useful for the pursuit of the collective goals of the community in relation to the rational use of the territory. It includes spatial planning, but also the territorial management methods developed by the communities themselves, according to their own historical and cultural itinerary.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The teaching introduces the student to: - know the problems of the city and the territory, read as the evolution of the relationships between social organization and spatial and territorial organization; - analyze the urban planning instrumentation, as a response to the search problems of the optimal distribution of people, goods and services on a given territory; - understand the articulation of urban planning tools, according to national and regional legislation (from territorial to executive planning); - use the techniques of analysis, elaboration, management and application of the plans, with particular regard to the Municipal Urban Plan; - knowing how to interpret the relationships between urban planning, landscape planning and strategic environmental assessment.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

To achieve the stated objectives, the course uses three training moments, aimed at developing a more comprehensive preparation.

Through lessons, the student acquires the information, techniques, lexicon, ... referable to the knowledge of a city planner. The teacher also makes use of innovative teaching methods that favor the involvement and resolution of problems in groups.

In the tutorial activities, he observes, knows and experiences the contents learned, through drawing, storytelling, interpretation, calculation, ...

During the laboratory, the student confronts a real case and discovers the link between local government regulations and design activities, testing himself in the resolution methods.

It should also be noted that the expected skills also include: managing social interactions with a collaborative attitude, constructive communication, in environments and group artciolation; autonomous decision making, collaborative attitude, management of human and material resources, coordination and negotiation, and meeting deadlines.

PREREQUISITES

There are no prerequisites.

TEACHING METHODS

The lessons are held frontally, with a final part of dialogue and debate in the classroom: the themes are proposed with a support of Power Point presentations, released on the Aula Web at the end of each semester.

The exercises are carried out in a guided manner at the beginning of the teaching, as a first application of the illustrated concepts and as an introduction to the laboratory activities.

The latter is mainly dealt with in the second semester and ends by the end of the course. On the last day of the lesson calendar, a collegial presentation of the laboratory works of the year will be held, carried out by each group.

Students who have valid certification of physical or learning disabilities on file with the University and who wish to discuss possible accommodations or other circumstances regarding lectures, coursework and exams, should speak both with the instructor and with Professor Federico Scarpa (federico.scarpa@unige.it  ), the Polytechnic School's disability liaison.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

During the Lessons, the teaching primarily deal with basic contents as:
- problems and questions
- technical analysis and historical critical investigation
- themes of debate

The Exercises introduce the student to the practical observation of territorial dynamics and the first bases of calculation of urban planning technique. They are carried out in class, individually, with collegial correction and commentary.

Within the Laboratory, after an initial part in which the analytical tools for setting the problem are provided, a unique design theme is addressed for the whole class, to be developed once divided into groups (problem based learning).

The SDGs covered by the teaching are mainly: 9, 11,12, 13, 14, 15.

The oral exam focuses on the contents of the lectures. It is preferable for the candidate to prepare a topic chosen from among those of the course, possibly further investigated personally

ASSESSMENT METHODS

At the oral exam the assessment of the lectures contents takes place.

The contents of the laboratory are verified by means fo the presentation of project book at the end of the year.

The exercises are corrected and commented collegially in class.
