CODE 84651 ACADEMIC YEAR 2024/2025 CREDITS 12 cfu anno 2 SCIENZE DELL'ARCHITETTURA 8694 (L-17) - GENOVA SCIENTIFIC DISCIPLINARY SECTOR ICAR/10 LANGUAGE Italian TEACHING LOCATION GENOVA SEMESTER Annual TEACHING MATERIALS AULAWEB OVERVIEW The module intends to provide an understanding of the complex reality of building design, describing the phases of the building process, analysing typical building construction techniques and technologies, critically breaking down the constituent elements of buildings, with attention to the reading of the main functional typologies also by technically analysing the evolutions in the history of construction techniques and technologies. The acquired knowledge will be the basis for the elaboration of the topics addressed during the Workshop; during it, a construction project draws will be developed from the feasibility study (1:500-1:200), to the detail/construction node scale (1:10-1:5) of a building with construction systems, structures, components and construction elements are analysed and learnt during the hours of lectures. AIMS AND CONTENT AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES The Architectural Engineering teaching refers to the constructive aspects of architecture; the tools, methods and techniques for the design at the scale of the building are shared, which can be used in the transformation, realisation, maintenance, recovery and management of the built environment, with reference to the aspects related to the technological design of works with a demanding and performance approach of the building assets. Furthermore, the aim is to provide a cultural introduction to: the history and technological culture of construction; the study of building technologies and construction systems in their historical development; the study of natural and artificial materials. Based on what is covered during the lectures, the Workshop has the following learning objectives: It translates what was discussed and acquired during the lectures into a real construction project, by means of an approach that, while having a technical purpose, employs the knowledge and sensitivity of architectural design for the choice of solutions It learns the use of drawing as a tool for analysing design solutions It transposes the project into digital draws It elaborates project drawings from scale 1:500 for global aspects to scale 1:5 for construction nodes/details of project. The course is structured to provide students with the following skills: conoscenza della storica delle tecniche e tecnologie delle costruzioni acquisizione di consapevolezza dei materiali per le costruzioni conoscenza dei sistemi costruttivi acquisizione delle soluzioni attuali per la progettazione di dettaglio degli elementi costruttivi capacità di progettazione dei nodi costruttivi principali negli edifici TEACHING METHODS Teaching activities include: - lectures on the topics indicated in the programme - practical workshop on the topics indicated in the programme SYLLABUS/CONTENT Properties of building materials (stone, brick, wood, metal, glass, conglomerates, others) From materials to structural systems Construction elements: stone, brick and mixed masonry lintels, arches, vaults floors roofs reinforced concrete, metal, wood constructions envelope finishes RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY The main reference text is the following volume compiled as a general text on technical architecture, within which the topics indicated in PROGRAMME AND CONTENT can be found. Other references will be given during the lectures and the practical workshop. Dassori, E., Morbiducci, R. 2020. Costruire l'architettura.
