AIMS AND CONTENT

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

 

- Approaching a patient suffering from an eating disorder

- Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team, sharing a common method and language

- Develop a weight goal

- Set up a diet therapy compatible with any medical complications

- Set up a diet therapy to normalize body weight and vary it depending on the  weight trend

- Provide the patient with self-monitoring tools for specific symptoms

- Provide feedback to the patient on the contents of the self-monitoring

- Aid the patient in dealing with avoided foods and situations

- Aid the patient towards flexible nutrition

- Provide the patient with the tools to maintain the results achieved

- Provide the patient with tools for managing relapses

- Be engaging

- Support the patient in maintaining active motivation

- Give feedback to the patient's family

- Give instructions to family members for proactive management of the patient in the family

TEACHING METHODS

The teaching is divided into 20 hours of training activities, of which:

 

- 17 hours of frontal theoretical lessons

- 2 hours of exercises

- 1 hour of case analysis

 

Any Student with documented Specific Learning Disorders (SLD), or with any special needs, shall reach out to the Lecturer(s) and to the dedicated SLD Representative in the Department before class begins, in order to liase and arrange the specific teaching methods and ensure proper achievement of the learning aims and outcomes.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

- Assessment

- Calculation of the minimum BMI/binary BMI threshold

- Calorie calculation and development of diet therapy

- Food exposure techniques (Assisted Feeding, Triphasic Breathing, Mindfulness Techniques, use of the monitoring card)

- The Dietary Interview

- Conducting psycho-educational groups

- Interview with significant others (parental and non-parental figures)

- Communication techniques with difficult patients (outlines)

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The learning assessment takes place through the final exam which aims to ascertain the actual acquisition by the student of the expected learning outcomes.

To pass the exam, and therefore obtain a grade of no less than 18/30, the student must demonstrate that:
