AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES The main aim of this course is to provide the students the scientific bases to undestand the pathological processes of the tissues. The attended results are the comprehension of the mechanisms inducing diseases and the ability to coordinate the notions of the course in an organic way. TEACHING METHODS Frontal lectures SYLLABUS/CONTENT General Aetiology; Physical causes of diseases (radiation, heat and mechanic force); Chemical causes of diseases: mechanisms and biotransformation of xenobiotics. Cell pathology: main types of adaptation (atrophy and hypertropy); main types of cell damage and death (necrosis and apoptosis). Acute and chronic inflammation. Innate and acquired immunity. Repair of tissue damage. General oncology: defition and features of the tumours and neoplatic cells. Metastasis. Molecular basis of oncology (oncogenes and oncosuppressors). Aetiology of tumours. The knowledge and the definitions of basic elements of the course must be known by the students so that the examination could be approved.
